LIfe is good. The Calgary Science Fiction and Fantasy Society (www.csffs.org) is gearing up for Con-Version 23 (www.con-version.org). If's a Sci-Fi/ Fantasy con in August, with panels, guests, and that sort of thing.
I'm busy trying to find ways to bring Fandom together in more ways than just a con. We're fans 365.25 days each year, but the average con is 2-3 days, and most of us can only afford one or two cons each year. What ideas have you seen/ can you think of? We do some pretty typical things (running a dance this spring, we have a forum, and so on). I'm looking for fresh ideas, or new takes on old ideas.

Re: Fandom in Clagary, AB (Canada)
Sun, March 4, 2007 - 7:15 AMWell we had a similar thought about bringing together the different fandom groups here in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. The foremost idea is having an inter-fandom picnic and that seems to be a very popular one. Just like a good old-fashioned family picnic, but with other fans as well as family. We hope to cross-pollinate the many types of fan groups.
Also, last night several of us from three organizations volunteered to answer phones at the PBS station and had quite a bit of fun.I know you don't have PBS in Canada, but there may be other public service opportunities that also get you publicity. We got quite a bit of publicity and created one heck of a stir when we rolled out our large-as-life Dalek and had it talk to the PBS announcer. She was a little unsure what to make of it, but everyone got a kick out of the scene.
So, that's just a couple ideas. I'm sure there are more out there.
